- On island.is there are 12 categories. These are categories that relate to peoples' life circumstances.
- There is a summary of most of the forms and application forms that can be found on public websites. In its first version there were over 1,200 forms on island.is.
- The site contains basic information on all local authorities and all state operated institutions.
- There are over 1,000 definitions on the website.

This is a long-term project that will be in continuous development, and the goal is to encourage greater interactivity on the Internet.
Management of the project
island.is is a partner project between the state and local authorities. The Prime Minister's Office has been responsible for the preparation of the service provider.
The control group of island.is has overall management of the project and makes all major decisions regarding its development.
