Social Insurance

All residents of Iceland are insured by the social security system, subject to certain conditions and in accordance with the decisions of the Social Insurance Administration (TR). The insurance cover expires on emigrating from Iceland.

The Social Insurance Administration participates in miscellaneous costs incurred by the insured due to diagnosis or treatment in the healthcare system, subject to certain conditions.

In the event of a person becoming unable to work due to a serious illness or an accident, those who have legal residence in Iceland may be entitled to benefits from the Social Insurance Administration in accordance to the law.
