Searching for information
Material on island.is is divided according to categories. These categories can be seen on the website's front page.
The material may be accessed as follows:
- Select category on the front page and then search the sub-categories for the material in question.
- Search with Embla by writing a search term in the search field. Embla is a search engine that understands Icelandic. This means that it takes account of the different grammatical forms of Icelandic words, such as cases, number and articles.
- Select A-Z and search by first letter. For example, if searching for 'passport', click 'p'.
You can find almost all the forms issued by the state on island.is. There are also links to many forms issued by local authorities, or links to the website of the local authority in question. There are three ways to find the appropriate form or application:
- By search term.
- By first letter.
- By category.
