Before applying for placement at an assisted living facility, the applicant must undergo a needs assessment for placement. The applicant's medical and social condition is examined, and an assessment made of his or her need.

When care at a nursing home is requested, one must first apply for a needs assessment, in which the applicant's situation is assessed by a special committee. Placements at nursing homes are not assigned until all other measures have been exhausted.

Elderly people who do not feel comfortable staying at home any longer, even though they have access to domestic services, have the option of applying to stay in a geriatric institution, where they will receive the appropriate service and care.

Serviced flats are intended in particular for elderly people who are able to live by themselves. According to the law, there must be a security alarm system in the flats and there must be a variety of services to choose from in order to alleviate the daily life of residents.
